Living in the Bethesda area offers the perfect mix of culture, cuisine, and a busy pro sports calendar. Just recently, the Quicken Loans National was played TPC Potomac, and Kyle Stanley earned his first PGA tour victory in five years. Watching the pros is great, but getting out on the links yourself is even better. And there is certainly no shortage of fantastic places to do it.
When the weather warms up, golf season has begun. You can either join one of the many beautiful golf clubs the area has to offer, or grab a foursome for some fun out on one of the public courses.
There are many private clubs, and along with the top notch golf courses, it’s a perfect place to get involved in a fabulous social scene. Congressional Country Club is a two-course club located in Bethesda. The “Blue” course is famous course that has been the host for the US Open 1964, 1997, and 2011, and the PGA Championship in 1976.
The Bethesda Country Club has a very rich history, is family friendly, and its 18-hole championship golf course will not disappoint.
Another option is the Kenwood Golf and Country Club. It’s been in existence since 1928, and the clubhouse, golf course, and its facilities cover over 100 acres of rolling countryside in Bethesda. Some other private clubs and courses include TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm, Chevy Chase Club, The Burning Tree Club, and Columbia Country Club.
If you’re looking for a public golf course, there are plenty to choose from as well. In fact, few metropolitan areas have as many high quality public golf courses, so for golfers that means a multitude of public courses that replicate the private course experience. Falls Road Golf Course is located on 150 acres of former farmland, and offers a great round of golf with scenic rolling terrain. It’s just minutes from Bethesda. Golf lessons, clinics, and after school and summer camps are available for kids.
About 40 minutes outside Bethesda is a public course that will be well worth the drive. Lake Presidential Golf Club was named in 2016 one of the best courses in the state by Golfweek, and was created by the developers of extraordinary Kiawah Island in South Carolina, and internationally known PGA West in California. It’s a championship caliber course, beautifully groomed on a scenic 30-acre lake. A few other local public courses include, Sligo Park Golf Course, Redgate, and the University of Maryland Golf Course.
